Respiratory Protection

Exposures to respiratory hazards can cause chronic and acute lung diseases, allergic reactions, irritations, cancers and systemic poisonings of the major organs in the body. Where there is a risk of hazardous airborne substances or oxygen deficient atmosphere in the workplace approved respiratory protective devices must be worn. Respiratory equipment is probably the most important type of personal protective equipment available to workers who are exposed to hazardous conditions and atmospheres.

The purpose of this training is to help workers understand:

  • The anatomy of the respiratory system and how the system works
  • Respiratory hazards that exist in the workplace and the effects they can have on our health
  • How to protect against respiratory hazards
  • Roles and responsibilities
